INGOT PASSING DECEMBER 1ST @11 AM MARKET ON MADISON

Bronze ingots are passed from person to person, up to Verdin foundry personnel who then load the furnace with the final bits of bronze. The Verdin casting team explains in detail how a bell is made, the details of what is happening on the site and what history is being made.

POURING OF THE BELL DECEMBER 1ST @ 5 PM MARKET ON MADISON

4-5 hours after the ingot passing event, the pouring of the bell happens. This is the length of time it takes to heat the furnace to a melting temperature of 2200 degrees. Bell bronze is ready to be poured into the bell mold at 2200 degrees. This is a very exciting event to watch.

BELL BREAKOUT DECEMBER 2ND @ 10 AM MARKET ON MADISON

The bell breakout means that the bell is broken out of the sand mold where it has cooled overnight. City dignitaries break the custom bell from its mold. Verdin provides the bronze sledge hammers for this ceremony. After the bell breakout, it takes a minimum of 5 hours to grind, polish, stain and highlight the bell and prepare it for dedication. These tasks are very educational and the Verdin crew is on hand to discuss all the facets of this part of the bell casting.

BELL DEDICATION & OPENING CEREMONY DECEMBER 2ND @ 4:30 PM MARKET ON MADISON

All participating Bicentennial organizations will be recognized

Come out and join our Elected Officials, City of Dublin Employees, Participating Bicentennial Organizations, and the Verdin Crew for the official start of our Bicentennial Celebration. 2012 will be a year to remember in the City of Dublin and you will not want to miss one minute of it!!

Once the bell has been polished and prepared for dedication, it is mounted into a dedication stand. The bell in the dedication stand is positioned so that after the speeches, music, and ceremony, the bell can be rung by all attendees. Bicentennial keepsakes will be on sale.

Last Year’s Celebration Show[2010]

Saturday July 3rd 2010, The fireworks show was obviously on a smaller budget than years before, but that doesn’t mean they were completely unimpressive. With only three noticeable short pauses in the show, the size and colors of the fireworks easily justified the smaller-budgeted display. As usual, everyone always wants the finale to be longer and bigger than the previous year’s, but that wasn’t really expected this year because of the forewarned smaller budget. I personally thought they did a really nice job with the finale, setting off lots of the biggest and loudest fireworks I’ve seen from Dublin in many years.

This is the time of year that we all are waiting on to begin; the trees are budding out and the birds are singing, yes it is the beginning of the Saint Patrick’s Festival in Dublin, Ga. You cannot live in Dublin Georgia without celebrating the Irish Holiday. The green grits are cooking, the green pancakes are stacked and green bows are up. We are ready to dance an Irish jig and eat the goodies at the Arts and Crafts Festival.

We start off with a golf tournament, then a fun run/walk and end with a bike ride, all in good fun for charity. The balloons come in at the Southern Pines Recreation Park; everyone goes to see them being inflated, take rides in them and then watch them light up the night with a beautiful glow. The next day they float off into the sky with grace and beauty until their return next year.

All the young girls dress up in their gowns for the local pageants from two to twenty something anticipating the honor of representing Dublin and riding in the parade. Little smiling leprechauns running around from the local schools and shamrocks painted down Main Street. Everyone is wearing green and enjoying good times.

The parade provides a look at the friendly faces of the local politicians, high school bands marching proudly and brightly decorated floats with candy throwing patrons advertising their businesses. The antique cars, the hotrods and the showoffs all come to the festival for people to view and hear the roar of their prized possessions. While there you can look at the beautiful arts and crafts made by vendors far and wide. Get a hold of some good Georgia BBQ and a delicious fruit smoothie. The country, rock and Christian vocalists sing us tunes on the grand stage with various groups clogging and dancing to the music.

You can get a taste of Irish stew at the local Presbyterian Church and even attend a gospel concert in the theater downtown. Hang around to Sunday after church and you get your fill at the Main Street Munchies which brings life to downtown while restaurants show off the local cuisine. Your mail at the Dublin Post office can be stamped officially with the St. Patrick’s emblem for everyone to see your pride of where you live.

Yes it happens every year; rain or shine; and you know the residents of Laurens County all come out to celebrate the annual Dublin-Laurens St. Patrick’s’ Festival. It’s been going on for 46 years with no plan to stop anytime soon. Erin Go Baugh!
